What we build

We build the machines that put the glue down—not the glue.

Bonding Systems designs complete structural panel lamination systems for manufacturers of recreational vehicles, specialty vehicles and other large composite-panel products. Each system can combine precision polyurethane adhesive application, controlled water mist, material handling, vacuum pressing and automated controls into one customized production process.

Our equipment applies and activates single-component moisture-cure polyurethane adhesive, handles the panel materials, and presses the assembled layers into finished structural panels. Most customers come to us for a complete line designed around their panel, or to replace equipment on a line they already run.

Bonding Systems Inc. designs and builds adhesive application and pressing systems engineered specifically for single-component liquid urethane adhesives. Our lines run in RV and specialty-vehicle plants and SIP factories, and we have built custom truck-body lines for refrigerated delivery vans as far away as Brazil. RV manufacturers we’ve built for include Thor Industries and Forest River.

Building panels

Structural Insulated Panel (SIP) Systems

Two structural skins—commonly OSB or plywood—bonded to a rigid foam core such as EPS. Our SIP lines apply adhesive and mist, assemble and square the layers, and press them into a finished structural panel.

Custom lines

Different panel, different line. We design custom panel-lamination systems, adhesive manifolds and application heads, presses, conveyors and controls for applications that don’t match a standard configuration.

RV and SIP, side by side

Both lines use the same adhesive, water-mist, handling and pressing technology. RV systems are optimized for long, relatively thin and sometimes irregular vehicle panels in varied materials; SIP systems for thick, rectangular building panels that need accurate squaring, lifting and heavier pressing.

How the system works

From tote to finished panel

Every BSI line follows the same sequence. Select a stage to see the equipment that does it.

Adhesive pump station with a 2,500 lb tote above a heated day tank

Stage 1 of 8

Supply

Adhesive flows by gravity from a 55-gallon drum or a 2,500 lb tote into the pump station’s 50-gallon day tank. Containers can be changed without stopping production.

Assemble the next panel while four others cure

A single press table makes the line wait for every cure cycle. Four independently controlled tables let assembly run continuously: one tier is loaded or unloaded while the others hold panels under vacuum.

BSI-200 Series

Continuous Lamination Presses

The BSI-200 Series provides continuous pressing solutions for structural panel lamination. The BSI-200 Interpress uses heated nip rollers to control bond-line temperature and accelerate adhesive curing, while the BSI-210 Conveyor Belt Press provides continuous, unheated pressing for heat-sensitive materials and applications requiring longer cure times.

Adhesive application and water mist

Precision Adhesive Application

Bonding Systems’ automated applicators deposit consistent beads of single-component polyurethane adhesive while applying a controlled water mist to initiate curing. The assembled panels are then pressed under controlled pressure to create strong, reliable structural bonds.

  2. Activate with Mist

  3. Press & Bond

    Controlled pressure creates structural laminates.

Programmable, not just mechanical

The controls make a BSI line a programmable manufacturing system. The same touchscreen logic that places adhesive also times the press and warns operators before the adhesive’s working time runs out.

The controls manage

  • Applicator head movement
  • Adhesive pressure
  • Adhesive start and stop
  • Water-mist application
  • Manifold selection
  • Saved application patterns
  • Press positioning
  • Vacuum levels
  • Press-cycle timing
  • Adhesive working-time warnings
  • Alarms and production status

Adhesive manufacturers

Compatible with Leading Adhesive Technologies

Bonding Systems equipment supports single-component polyurethane adhesives from established manufacturers, including Henkel/Loctite, Bostik, H.B. Fuller, Dow, and Kleiberit. Systems are configured around your adhesive selection, materials, and production requirements.

Materials and applications

What will it bond?

Manufacturers often search by the materials they need to bond. Liquid urethane adhesives bond well to many materials, including:

  • Fiberglass-reinforced plastic

    Many FRP materials

  • Metals

    Treated or coated

  • Wood

    Including luan and OSB

  • Paper

    Including some honeycomb

  • Extruded polystyrene

    Planed

  • Expanded polystyrene

    EPS bead board

  • PVC foam

  • Polyurethane foam

  • Lightweight composites

    Such as Azdel

The first question we ask

Whose adhesive are you using, and will it bond your materials?

Single-part polyurethane adhesives do not bond every material. Sheet metals, for example, may require coating or surface treatment to achieve a reliable bond.

If you’re unsure about compatibility, send samples of your materials to your adhesive manufacturer for bond testing and recommendations before selecting your lamination equipment.

Tell us about your materials

Cure speed, heat resistance and building-code ratings vary by adhesive formulation. We’ll point you to your adhesive manufacturer’s data for those figures.

For adhesive sales representatives

Your customer chose the glue. We build the line that runs it.

Adhesive salespeople are one of the main ways manufacturers find us. When a customer is moving to single-component moisture-cure polyurethane and needs to apply, activate and press it at production volume, send them our way.

A running production line goes through adhesive in bulk totes, not pails. Tell us which product your customer runs and what they’re building, and John will call them directly.
